  • 1.  Exterior Mural Protection

Five years ago we added Crystal Cote as an anti-graffiti solution to a community artwork mural, but the graffiti returns.
Also, there was a blistering effect of the coating which is unsightly.
Today there many more non-sacrificial coatings available, but it is hard to know which product to use.
Two that "seem" effective are GRAF-X WB and also VANDLGUARD.
Does anyone have any experience in this area? Recommendations?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hello Louise,

Thanks for the query! I am looking into it and will hopefully have more information soon.

It is expected the graffiti would re-appear after some time with the Crystal Cote. The blistering effect could be caused by a variety of different things. One possibility is
the impermeable coating can trap moisture that is within the substrate causing release of adhesion and blistering the clear coat with the pigment layers bonded to the underside of the clear coat. As far as recommendations, Judy Baca (http://www.judybaca.com/artist/) has coating experience with her "The Great Wall of Los Angeles" Mural and might be able to provide some insight.

    Hope this helps!
