  • 1.  Questions for Emergency Preparedness and Response Twitter Chat

    Posted 10-17-2018 15:09
    Hi everyone,

I am looking for question submissions on emergency preparedness and response for the upcoming AIC Twitter Chat with Samantha Snell, Collections Management Specialist for the National Collections Program at the Smithsonian.  The event is this Friday, November 19th, 1 - 2 pm ET. The conservation will be hosted through AIC's Twitter account and the results will be gathered into a story that will be shared through various social media platforms, so those who do not have Twitter accounts will still be able to access the information.
Questions can be sent in a response to this message, e-mailed to Katelin Lee klee@conservation-us.org, tweeted to @conservators, or in the comment section of AIC's Facebook post.  I encourage you to forward this to your contacts.

Here is Sam's bio and some recent projects in which she's participated:

Samantha Snell is the Collections Management Specialist for the National Collections Program.  In this position, Samantha implemented the Smithsonian's first centralized collections emergency team – Preparedness and Response in Collections Emergencies (PRICE) team.  This is a pan-institutional group that provides training for interdisciplinary staff, guidance on collections emergency policy and procedures and assists with logistics planning before and during emergencies.  She also initiated the Smithsonian's Collections Professional Development (CPD) program. The mission of the Professional Development Program is to provide a series of learning opportunities for Smithsonian staff to enhance their academic and technical training, continuing education opportunities offered by professional associations, and on-the-job experience to ensure the successful application of Smithsonian collections management policy and standards.  In support of both PRICE and CPD, the Collections Collaboration Community (C3) was established as a distribution list to disseminate information about opportunities and resources to the 950+ collections and collections related Smithsonian staff members. Previously, Samantha was a member of the National Air and Space Museum's Collections Department for nearly 16 years. During her tenure at NASM, she worked on numerous projects that spanned various units within the Museum and she played a key role in coordinating the artifact recovery efforts after the Building 21 collapse at the Paul E. Garber Facility in 2010.
Recent projects: Wet Salvage Training, Holy Smokes! Fire Recovery Training, Collections Emergency Cart Instruction, Fire Protection for Collections Spaces Instruction, Collections Emergency Plan development, Risk Assessment of Collections Spaces guidance

    Hi Jessica and Samantha,

Can you talk about how you got buy-in from non collections departments for your PRICE team?  For example, do you include public programs and and front of the house staff?

    Thanks,
