The Getty Conservation Institute, Heritage Conservation Centre, and the Microfading Tester International Discussion Group are pleased to announce the upcoming one-day workshop, "Microfading Tester: Gaining Practical Experience." Hosted at the Heritage Conservation Centre in Singapore, the workshop will offer identical sessions on 2027 April 14 and 15. The registration window opens on 2026 September 30 and will close on 2026 October 21; applications can be submitted at: https://form.jotform.com/262348659899078
Because capacity is limited to 18 participants per day, the registration application includes questions to ensure broad representation across the Asia-Pacific region. Selected participants will be notified shortly after October 21 and sent a payment link for the registration fee (100 SGD or Singaporean Dollars). Those not selected will join a waitlist and be contacted if a spot opens up. Additionally, all participants from Tier 2 or Tier 3 countries will receive a full refund of the registration fee upon completing the workshop.
The intended audience for this workshop includes prospective and emerging microfading tester (MFT) users, as well as those interested in alternatives to their current MFT setups. This full-day workshop provides attendees with practical training on three versions of MFT commonly in use: the original Whitmore MFT design, the Retroreflective MFT, and the Fotonowy MFT. Working in small groups led by expert instructors, attendees will participate in three 90-minute hands-on sessions to operate the instruments, analyze data, and communicate the results. Information will also be shared on instrument acquisition, assembly, portability, and maintenance, and the workshop will close with a group discussion and Q&A. Additional workshop details can be found at: https://www.culturalheritage.org/blogs/vincent-beltran/2026/08/02/mft-workshop-singapore
Note: In conjunction with the MFT workshop, there will also be a public lecture on museum lighting on 2027 April 13 featuring the workshop instructors. More details will follow.
