Paintings Specialty Group

The Paintings Specialty Group's purpose is to improve knowledge of all subjects relating to the conservation of paintings, to promote proficiency and skill in the practice of paintings conservation, and to disseminate related technical and professional information.  Formed in 1980, the group has members from the United States and the international community and includes professionals from historic sites, museums, private practice, and regional centers.

Activities include:

  • Organizing sessions at AIC Annual Meetings in addition to facilitating other regional conferences. In past years, sessions have followed overall AIC conference themes or concentrated on a unique theme often as part of joint sessions with other specialty groups
  • Maintaining an online community where members can discuss current topics in paintings conservation
  • Publishing an annual publication distributed to our members that consists mostly of papers presented at our annual meeting session

  • Offering an award for outstanding contributions to the field of paintings conservation
