Simon Schama’s September 3, 2018 New Yorker article about the Forbes Pigment Collection housed in the Straus Center for Conservation and Technical Studies at Harvard University (“Blue as Can Be” ) tells the story of the development of the collection and the history and manufacture of several of the pigments in it, including  YInMn Blue, Vanta Black, Dragon’s Blood, Mummy Brown, Indian Yellow, and Perkin’s Mauve. The stories are so captivating that one imagines scores of readers who were previously ignorant about pigments and  color searching for more information about them.
