In the October 26,2018 issue of The Wall Street Journal, Charles Passy writes about the conservation of the mural that Keith Haring painted in Woodhull Hospital (Brooklyn) in 1986 (
“Painting Doctors Restore Keith Haring Art” ). Passy begins his piece with the words: “Helen Im and Suyeen Kim arrived for work Wednesday at Brooklyn’s Woodhull Hospital carrying the usual tools of their trade including scalpels and syringes”, leading the reader to think that they are medical personnel before continuing:“Ms. Im and Ms. Kim aren’t physicians. They’re art conservators with the New York based Fine Arts Conservation Group.” He ends the piece with a quote from Kim: “We are painting doctors, basically”. The analogy the conservator as doctor is used so often that one sometimes longs for an original one.
