This course will provide those working in conservation and collections care with an understanding of how projects are managed in practice. The participants will learn the principles of monitoring projects, the importance of good communication and how to effectively review and close a project.
The program assumes a basic understanding of project management terminology and practices.
Course content:

Introduction: Fundamentals of Project Management with a focus on stages of project management

Scheduling: methodologies, tools and software

Managing Resources: identifying and mobilising resources such as people, materials and funding, including the use of external resources (procurement)

Managing change: evaluation of change proposals and implementation of approved changes

Management of Risks: assessing, evaluating and managing project risks; writing risk management plans and planning contingency and risk allowances

Communication: writing communication plans, team management, interpersonal communication and running effective project meetings.
Each area of project management covered by the course will include case studies related to conservation and collections care. The course is highly practical, and the participants are expected to take part in practical group exercises.
