    Dear IWG,

I'm excited to announce the call for abstracts for Imaging Encounters with the Surprising and Unexpected, a session being hosted by the AIC Imaging Working Group next May in Salt Lake City

The deadline is September 15. Please contact me with any questions.

"Advancing digital imaging and computing capabilities mean that a range of imaging tools, techniques, and technologies are available to conservators and the conservation process. These include techniques that can record variations in scale (micro to macro), two- and three-dimensions, and radiation interactions beyond human vision (X-ray, UV, and IR). These techniques offer a variety of new and different ways to document and look at objects that may offer encounters with the surprising and unexpected. Imaging can allow us to see unanticipated materials and details on an object; to gain insight that may change the treatment approach; to uncover new aspects of the creative process or method of manufacture; and to discover a new approach for treatment, exhibition, or collection management."

    I hope you are well!

    Adam

    Hi IWG,

Just a friendly reminder that the abstract deadline for the imaging session at the 2024 AIC Annual Meeting is September 15, 2023. We are one week away, so there is still time to pull together an abstract about your imaging encounters with the surprising and unexpected! The full call for submissions and important links are included below.

The 2024 AIC Annual Meeting will be in Salt Lake City, UT May 20-24, 2024, and the AIC IWG will be hosting a session on imaging during the concurrent general session.

We hope that you will consider submitting an abstract!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Adam Neese or myself.

Call for submissions: Imaging Encounters with the Surprising and Unexpected

Advancing digital imaging and computing capabilities mean that a range of imaging tools, techniques, and technologies are available to conservators and the conservation process. These include techniques that can record variations in scale (micro to macro), two- and three-dimensions, and radiation interactions beyond human vision (X-ray, UV, and IR). These techniques offer a variety of new and different ways to document and look at objects that may offer encounters with the surprising and unexpected. Imaging can allow us to see unanticipated materials and details on an object; to gain insight that may change the treatment approach; to uncover new aspects of the creative process or method of manufacture; and to discover a new approach for treatment, exhibition, or collection management.

The AIC Imaging Working Group is interested in facilitating a session following the conference theme "Expected the Unexpected" to explore how imaging fosters encounters with the surprising and unexpected, what imaging has brought to your practice that you have embraced, and even perhaps why you have changed an approach due to imaging influencing your decisions.
