    Posted 07-09-2024 08:59

    Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce a Special Issue dedicated to the comprehensive and multidisciplinary glass conservation field, inviting contributions which cover glass studies and the conservation of glass from all epochs, including contemporary art. This Special Issue seeks to gather research articles and reviews on pioneering and original research, practical applications, novel methodologies, and case studies, highlighting cutting-edge research and innovative practices in the preservation and restoration of glass artefacts. We welcome contributions on the following topics of interest:

    • Innovative Treatments: Groundbreaking treatments that revolutionise traditional methods, utilising modern technologies and materials to enhance the restoration and stabilisation of glass objects. Papers revisiting and adapting more conventional techniques are also welcome.

    • Complex Deterioration Mechanisms: Intricate factors contributing to glass degradation, including environmental conditions, chemical composition, and previous restorations. We also seek advances in analytical methodologies for diagnosing and mitigating these complex deterioration processes.

    • Composite Objects of Glass and Other Materials-Issues and Solutions: The unique challenges of treating composite objects, including specialised approaches to maintaining the integrity of glass in combination with other materials, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary solutions.

    • Sustainability, Preventive Conservation, and Storage: Sustainable practices in glass conservation, including the use of environmentally friendly materials and processes, and preventive conservation strategies to control environmental factors and monitor the condition of glass artefacts to prevent and manage degradation phenomena.

    • Training in Glass Conservation: Current educational initiatives and the integration of innovative methodologies into training programmes.

Our final aim is to gather expertise and share experiences that actively contribute to the preservation of glass heritage.
