  • 1.  Carnival banner restoration?

    Hello friends!

I have come across what I can only describe as a "carnival" banner.  It's in pretty rough shape, but so incredible interesting.  I'm interested in finding an organization or someone who may be willing to at the very least check it out.  It is painted canvas, and is roughly 6 feet x 8 feet, so not easily transportable.  I've reached out to painting conservators, some who have suggested a textile conservator would be a better fit.  And they have suggested a painting conservator. I have also tried the "Find a conservator" function.  I am located in Connecticut, and at state owned institution, so a few extra hoops to jump through.  Of the 8 conservators I've reached out to, only 2 has responded.  And of those 2, only 1 has expressed interest. I've also been given some recommendations for a couple of places in Virginia, but not sure how that will work out.  Any suggestions in the Northeast? Recommendations?  Photo so you can see how cool it is.  TIA!

Canival Banner, 6 ft. by 8 ft.

    Jodi,

I would recommend reaching out to the NEDCC in Philadelphia. https://www.nedcc.org/

It is a wonderful organization with many knowledgeable staff members. I think they would be able to assist you.

    Hi Jodi-

Museum Textile Services, who are in Massachusetts, definitely travel to Connecticut. Camille Breeze is wonderful. https://museumtextiles.com/about/our-team/

    Good luck on your banner!
