Dear Colleagues,
At the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (Kansas City, MO), the Registration Department is revising our collections manual (with input from departments around the museum, of course!). The roles of temperature and RH in collection preservation have been overlooked in past editions, and the Conservation Department hopes to include a pithy statement that outlines our current environmental standards as well as the obligations of the Conservation, Registration, and Building Engineering Departments in monitoring, maintaining, and reporting the standards.
I am wondering if other conservators or collection managers have provided similar language to other handbooks/manuals, and if you can share with me? Ideally, the handbooks will be internal documents that spell out departmental tasks, including response actions and timelines when problems arise.
Kindly respond directly to me at the following email: rfreeman@nelson-atkins.org, and please let me know if I can share your contribution with the larger conservation community.
With many thanks,
Rachel Freeman, AIC PA
