  • 1.  Issues with Spec32 software

    Posted 10-15-2024 11:22

    Dear All,

For those of you currently using the Oriel-MFT, I wanted to ask if you have experienced issues when working with the Spec32 software. We've been having a hard time recently trying to have a steady operation of the software. We've experienced multiple crashes, problems when starting up, a couple of frozen screens with no updates of spectra when measuring in continuous mode, etc. We have uninstalled and installed the program several times using the download links available from the Control Development website, but still it is quite inefficient. We tried calling CD support in Indiana, but no one is answering their telephones. Although the website shows a 2024 copyright, it is difficult to know if they are still in business. Any recommendations will be highly appreciated.

    Dear Julio,

While I haven't experienced the Spec32 issues you describe, it might be helpful to reach out to David Waggoner (david.waggoner@perkinelmer.com, +1 574-999-1240), who is a software development engineer for Control Development and now Perkin Elmer, who purchased the company. We last exchanged emails in 2022 and he knows the software inside and out!

    Dear Vincent,

Thank you for providing the contact to Dave Waggoner. Dave knows the Spec32 software very well. We had a service call last week and went over all the Spec32 issues and were able to fix most of them. There are a few minor bugs such as the program crashing when one attemps to save the CIE chromaticity diagrams at the moment of selecting a save location for the file. However, this can be avoided by instead selecting the export option and then copying and pasting the diagram to any image editing software. Dave is close to making a release of version 1.7.6.5 and hopefully he will be able to take care of this and other minor problems of the software.

    Hello Julio,

Have you tried to reinstall the drivers? I've had issues where I can't open the application, usually when the laptop updates automatically. If I reinstall the drivers with the "CDI Driver installer" in the CDI Spec 32 folder it fixes the issue. This doesn't sound like the same problem you are having but it might be worth a try if you haven't already.

    Dear Mark,

Thank you for your reply. As I mentioned to Vincent on another post, I was able to solve many of the issues with the help of Dave Waggoner from Perkin Elmer. Similar to what you describe, in my case the windows updates were creating the issue of the application not wanting to open. This has been solved now. Dave asked me to update to version 1.7.6.4 and so far Spec32 is working well. I have not had any major issues. I am looking forward to the upcoming release of version 1.7.6.5.
