    Dear Collections Care Community,

I would like to post that old question again: What alternatives to MDF are currently being used for the construction of showcases? I would be grateful for Oddy tested materials (ideally available in the EU, too).

I have in the past carried out Oddy Tests for the British Museum and I am aware that several other museums have put their test results online. However, I would really appreciate to hear which materials have actually stood the test of time. I know that a few products of the Forex range were tried out at several institutions. Are there long term experiences with these?

    Best regards from Salzburg Museum,

    Liesa Brierley

    Hello Liesa,

In addition to this community of staff and volunteers at small and mid-sized collecting institutions, you may wish to pose this question to the Global Conservation Forum (https://community.culturalheritage.org/communities/community-home/digestviewer?communitykey=ea3d002c-9fc3-4446-b7d2-c308f5faed13&tab=digestviewer).

Consider reading about alternatives on this site and then looking up Oddy test results for those materials on the AIC's Material Testing Wiki: https://www.conservation-wiki.com/wiki/NonWood_Panels_used_in_Exhibit_Case_Construction?section=6#What_types_of_non-wood-based_panels_can_be_recommended_for_use_inside_exhibit_cases
