    Greetings All,

We at the Walters are doing some minor renovations in our photo and imaging space and are looking to repaint the walls black (they are currently matte black but have acquired many scuffs and scrapes over the years).  Does anyone have a good recommendation on a commercial matte black paint with an acceptable spectral response for normal, multiband/multimodal, multispectral, and hyperspectral imaging applications?  Alternatively, are there any products or product lines we should avoid?

Any advice would be most welcome.

    Best wishes,

    -Greg

    Hi Greg,

It looks like there have not yet been any responses about paints, so I thought I would chime in. Jiuan Jiuan shared some resources during her virtual tour at the end of April. That excel spreadsheet was shared in the IWG Community discussion about the virtual tour. Jiuan Jiuan discussed neutral gray so this may not quite be what you are looking for since you have asked about matte black. Jiuan Jiuan included options for both Benjamin More and GTI. I took a quick look at the ImageMuse discussions as paints come up in their discussions too. For the most part there was talk of older recommendations for Benjamin Moore #1480 for a neutral grey and more recent recommendations for GTI and folks using the N8 (N8/G - GTI Graphic Technology Inc. (gtilite.com)). (Jiuan Jiuan includes N5 for as what she used for the background material for her object setups.) Not sure if this is helpful, but I thought I would point to this information.

    Best,
    Keats
