The submission deadline for the Architecture Specialty Group (ASG) and Archaeological Heritage Network (AHN) abstracts has been extended to Thursday, October 13th.

ASG and AHN invite you to continue to submit abstracts for the 51st AIC Annual Meeting. We are seeking papers on any aspect of the preservation of architectural heritage, as well as specific research related to archaeological sites and architecture, for a special joint ASG/AHN session.

Below is the original ASG call for papers:

The Architectural Specialty Group (ASG) is pleased to announce that we are seeking abstracts for its paper and panel session at the upcoming 2023 AIC Annual Meeting in Jacksonville, Florida from May 16-20, 2023.

For this session, we are seeking abstracts that follow the conference theme of, "Conservation in the Age of Environmental, Social, and Economic Climate Change, " and more specifically, the positive and potentially challenging impacts of sustainability on project work.

Topics might include but are not limited to:

    • Budgetary implications of sustainability and workarounds to maintain project budgets and schedules
    • Treatment testing and selection based on possible environmental impacts or new sustainability laws - what was selected instead of traditional practices and products? Did it affect the efficacy of the treatment? Or was it more successful?
    • Unsustainable practices/materials during conservation treatments that do not yet have effective alternatives
    • Approaches to conserving sites impacted by or anticipated to be impacted by climate change
    • Performance and testing of new sustainable alternatives to products and procedures
    • Compromises or modifications to traditional conservation approaches made for sustainability reasons: how these decisions were made, by whom, and the positive and negative impacts.

All abstracts will be considered, so please submit, even if it doesn't fit the theme!

Abstract submissions should be no more than 500 words with an additional speaker biography of up to 300 words. Submissions are due by Friday, September 23, 2022, however because the posting was so late, please email us if you need more time with a brief outline in the email.

Talks are to be a maximum of 15 minutes in length in order to have 40 minutes for the panel discussion. Presenters should plan to be in-person for the panel. We will be publishing joint ASG written post-prints from each talk following the meeting. Additionally, the ASG will be holding a joint session with the Archaeology Heritage Network (AHN).

For questions or further information, please contact the ASG Program Chair, Brooke Russell (brussell@evergreene.com) and/or ASG Chair, Amy Elizabeth Uebel (amyelizabeth_uebel@nps.gov).

To be considered for either session, please select "Specialty Session: Architecture" in your submission.

    Thank you!

Brooke Russell (ASG), Alexis North (AHN) and Morgan Burgess (AHN)
