The Sustainability Committee invites you to register for our workshop  at the AIC Annual Meeting!

In partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Jacksonville, a cultural institute of the University of North Florida, AIC's Sustainability Committee and Preventive Care Network are hosting a practical workshop exploring some of the multitude of factors in consideration when providing holistic recommendations for sustainable practices at a collecting institution: 1) energy usage from the operation of HVAC systems and lighting; 2) materials and waste, specifically around packaging and transport for loans and exhibitions; and 3) regional environmental adaptation for the institution to protect the collection in a rapidly changing climate.

As part of these three topics, we'll be doing hands-on activities on site at the partner museum, including examining their HVAC setup, putting unconventional packing materials to the test, and exploring their building envelope to adapt to climate and infrastructure related risks.  Discussions will be held on cooperative, people-centered approaches where the role of the conservator or collections manager is to facilitate and aid discourse and innovation, rather than strictly observing and enforcing standards. Participants will be active in making recommendations for the host institution as well as consider practical applications within their own place of work.

    May 17, 2023, 9:00am - 5:00pm
