  • 1.  Visible filters for multiband (broadband multispectral imaging)

    Hello all!

The Met has recently updated our multiband imaging equipment. Our old IDAS-UIBAR VIS filter is starting to get threadbare, and we opted for the MidOpt BP550 as a replacement for imaging in the 400-700nm range. It is has a nice cut off, but the images have a red hue when directly compared to those captured with the IDAS, which I believe may be due to a small leak in the near infrared region. I have been trying to find alternatives, but the IDAS-UIBAR is no longer being manufactured, and I haven't been able to find a visible light bandpass alternative. I also tried to find a filter that would cut the IR light leak while still allowing in the proper range of visible light, but had no luck there either. Any suggestions for visible filters (400-700nm bandpass) that are currently in production? Thanks!

    Hi Dawn,

My impression and experience has been that the IDAS-UIBAR is the best filter for visible light imaging with modified cameras. It's sad that it's not being manufactured any longer. Have you contacted IDAS? If they aren't mass producing it any longer, maybe they would do a custom order.

    Dawn,

I was doing a bit of looking at Kolari Vision's site and noticed they have a new "hot mirror pro-2" filter which may be more suitable

Thanks Adam! This is very helpful. Hoping to hear back from IDAS, but in the meantime the MidOpt® SP700 Near-IR/UV Block-Visible Shortpass Filter for Machine Vision 405-690nm was recommended to me by Yosi Pozeilov. Although it has an identical curve, it seems it corrects better for IR. I will compare this along with the IDAS and our existing filter, and will report back with any findings. If that doesn't get us the proper results, will also see if the Kolari filter might be adapted for use with our lens-mounted system. Appreciate your suggestions!

We bought a MidOpt BP550 a few months ago, for this very purpose, but haven't tested it yet. Will look out for this - thank you
