    Hello,

I'm new to collections care with a background in exhibits. Our collection at Space Center Houston is almost all on display. Of items in storage, it includes almost no archival material, so we have no shelves and only 1 cabinet. Most objects are in crates on large metal shelves I have a question about binders from the 19080s. what are suggestion on how to store these?

They are manuals for a 747. there are about 30 of them and they are all the big (3-5") 3-ring type. I hesitate to take the contents of each binder and put in a binder box, because it seems the binder itself (cover) is worth keeping. What do you think about storing them in corrugated polypropylene boxes a few deep and stacked in two on the metal shelves?

    thanks!

    Hi Carmina,

Storing the binders in boxes on the metal shelves (off the floor) is a good solution. I also agree that the manuals should stay in their respective binders to prevent dissociation/ disorganization. If the environment is stable, I think archival Banker's boxes would work just as well as polypropylene boxes - unless moisture is a concern.
