Become an Assessor

As an approved assessor for the CAP Program, you have the opportunity to help small institutions grow in their professional capacity. Your service to the field through the CAP Program helps to improve our nation’s small museums.

The CAP program utilizes collections care and building care professionals to produce general conservation assessments for museums around the United States. To be placed on the approved assessors list, you must complete an application to demonstrate that you meet the following eligibility qualifications:

  • professional training in conservation, zoology, botany or horticulture, architectural conservation/preservation, architecture, landscape architecture, or engineering
  • at least five years of professional experience in preservation, conservation, or collections care in one of the above fields
  • experience conducting general conservation assessments
Assessor applications are available online by clicking the "Apply" button below. You will first be prompted to log in or create an account. If you already have an account with AIC/FAIC (e.g. - if you are an AIC member or have participated in an AIC/FAIC program), use the same login information you use to access that account.
