ECS – Midwest, a division of HF Group (www.ecsconservation.com), is looking for a self-motivated conservation technician. This position will report directly to the Conservation Manager.
Job Description: Performs conservation treatments on book and paper materials. These treatments include, but are not limited to: cleaning, washing, deacidifying, mending, sizing, mylar encapsulation, book binding, book restoration, and making protective enclosures for books. Performs technical administrative functions incidental to conservation activities including, but not limited to, treatment and billing documentation, supply ordering, quoting conservation projects and routing customer orders.
Preferred Education: Minimum of one-year experience in book conservation at another institution or practice, under the supervision of a conservator. Experience creating housings and handling special collections materials. Bachelor's degree or completion of formal training in hand-bookbinding, book conservation, and/or book arts. Experience creating housings and handling special collections materials. Strong computer skills including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Required Skill/ability: References must indicate reliable attendance and punctuality; accuracy and attention to detail; and ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
Full time position 7:00-3:30, Monday-Friday. Overtime mandated as workload requires. Hourly wage range $13-$15, commensurate with experience.
