We are seeking a Book and Paper Conservator to join the Collection Care Team at The Alexander Turnbull Library for a fixed term to cover parental leave. The team of 17 includes specialist conservators in Books, Works on Paper, Photographs, Audio Visual media and Sound recordings as well as Technicians, Collections Registrar and Library Assistants.
The Alexander Turnbull Library is New Zealand’s pre-eminent research library with extensive collections including books, manuscripts, sound recordings, drawings, paintings, prints maps, ephemera and digital media. It forms part of the National Library of New Zealand. The Library has a mandate to preserve, protect, develop and make accessible its collections for all the people of New Zealand in a manner consistent with their status as documentary heritage and t'onga.
The Book and Paper conservator will work with the Collection Care leader, conservators and research teams to provide specialist book and paper conservation services for heritage collections including rare books, albums, atlases, manuscripts and published collections including newspapers and serials.
The successful applicant must be eligible to work in NZ (please provide details in your application if you intend to apply for a visa), will have a recognized qualification in conservation or equivalent training and a minimum of two years practical professional experience as a conservator of books and bound formats.
