The Antarctic Heritage Trust is looking for emerging heritage conservation professionals to join us on a unique expedition. Applications are now open for Antarctic Heritage Trust's Inspiring Explorers Expedition™ to the Ross Sea region of Antarctica in January 2025. The expedition internships are for young people studying or working in an area of heritage conservation which relates to the Trust's conservation work in Antarctica, such as objects conservation, built heritage conservation (with a focus on timber structures), archaeology, heritage architecture, or heritage management to join the team. <u5:p></u5:p>
The young people selected will<u5:p></u5:p>
- learn what it takes to conserve Antarctica's cultural heritage directly from the Trust's expert team<u5:p></u5:p>
- contribute to an exciting group outreach project - a podcast series about their journey into Antarctica's historic heart<u5:p></u5:p>
- become an ambassador for the Trust's work by sharing their experience with their community when they return.<u5:p></u5:p>
We are looking for a range of young people aged 18-35 with an interest in Antarctic history, and a desire to grow their explorer mindset, and be pushed outside their comfort zone.<u5:p></u5:p>
Applicant eligibility: From New Zealand and Australia: we are looking for young people with specialist skills in heritage conservation. You will be studying, working in, or have worked in (within the last two years), an area of heritage conservation which relates to the Trust's conservation work in Antarctica, for example objects conservation, built heritage conservation (with a focus on timber structures), archaeology, heritage architecture, heritage management. You will not require a work visa for this expedition but a travel visa to enter New Zealand may be required, depending on your passport. The Trust will be able to assist you with this if required.<u5:p></u5:p>
From elsewhere in the world: Citizens of countries elsewhere in the world are eligible to apply for a 'heritage conservation' role in the team if they are residing long term in New Zealand or Australia, and are studying or working within the heritage conservation field. If this is the case, please make this obvious within your application, and provide proof, such as a record of your enrolment in a heritage related course of study at a New Zealand or Australian academic institution, or a letter from your New Zealand or Australian based employer.<u5:p></u5:p>
All applicants must hold a valid passport<u5:p></u5:p>
These positions are unpaid, however they do provide the recipient the following, to a total value in excess of $31,000 USD: All flights for the expedition; All accommodation and incidentals directly before and after the expedition; The expedition itself, including permits, guides, transport, food and group equipment costs; Any travel required and accommodation for the team building and post-expedition programme weekends; Travel insurance covering the expedition and associated travel.
