Hello all,
My colleague Jody Hanson is teaching a short course on mountmaking at Brooklyn Metal works in August. She hopes to offer it again in October.
Description and link below!
Mountmaking Short Course - Brooklyn Metal Works
Class Description
3-day workshop, 11AM-6pm
In this Short Course you will learn about the specialized skill of mountmaking for the display of objects. The basics of designing and fabricating a secure mount for an object that you bring to class will be covered. Methods of fabrication will include forming and fitting brass rod and wire, soldering and torchwork, cold connections, and friction fit elements. We will also discuss mount paddings and painting.
Students will purchase a tool kit and other project-specific needs from the BKMW Tool Shop with the supervision of the instructor during the workshop.
Basic metalsmithing skills are required, including high temperature brazing/silver soldering. Our Welcome to BKMW: Jewelry class offers this introduction.
If you are not sure if you have the right skillset for this class please email us!
Repeat students are welcome and can bring new objects for mounting.
