    April 25, 2024, 1:00 pm – OSHA's On-Site Consultation Program

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) On-Site Consultation Program is a no-cost service that operates in all U.S. states where consultants visit work sites at employers' requests to identify hazards, help develop and maintain effective health and safety programs, and provide training. Consultants are independent of OSHA enforcement activities and will not report hazards or issue citations.

In this webinar attendees will learn how small and mid-sized institutions can best use the services that OSHA provides through this program.  Two museums who hosted consultants will also talk about their experiences and how they used their time spent with the consultants to make their workplaces safer for the objects and employees they work with.

May 1, 2024, 1:00 pm – Regional Emergency Networks: VACDaRN's Response to Vermont's Severe Weather and Flooding

On July 10th, 2023, after weeks of inclement weather, it began to rain across Vermont.  The saturated ground could not absorb the water from the sky or the rivers, and there was widespread flooding. The Vermont Arts & Culture Disaster and Resilience Network (VACDaRN), organized in 2018, activated and provided assistance to several cultural heritage and historical records repositories. Coordination through this network enables artists, as well as arts and heritage organizations, to work together to share expertise and resources, mobilize response for mutual assistance during emergencies, and engage collectively with first responders and government emergency management agencies.

Several months later, recovery work is ongoing and is expected to continue through 2024.  As part of FAIC's annual May Day programming, two members of the VACDaRN Steering Team will speak about their work in the immediate aftermath of the flooding, the long tail of recovery, and what they learned we need to improve before the next disaster.

    May 30, 2024, 1:00 pm – Earthquake Preparedness

Earthquakes can be devastating to building structures and their contents for small and mid-sized institutions, resulting in extended recovery periods based on accessibility and structural reinforcement, and they affect numerous regions throughout the United States. During this webinar, part of AIC's MayDay programming, experts will explain the science behind these natural phenomena, helping attendees understand what earthquakes are and what causes them. A case study will also be presented that will offer practical guidance on earthquake mitigation, prevention, and recovery that cultural institutions will be able to apply to their facilities.

June 4, 2024, 1:00 pm - Practical Strategies for the Care of Film and Glass Negatives

Aiming to provide collections care professionals from small and mid sized institutions with practical strategies for effectively managing and preserving film and glass negatives, this webinar will emphasize pragmatic advice, resourceful solutions, and cost-effective measures to ensure the longevity and integrity of these valuable collections.

This session will help participants be better equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to implement practical and effective care strategies within their respective institutions.
