AFR Project Support

With generous support from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT), the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation (FAIC) offers awards of up to $5,000 to Alliance for Response (AFR) Networks. Funds are intended to help keep AFR networks dynamic or help reinvigorate networks that may need additional training and membership to remain ready to serve their communities. Examples of eligible projects include: providing emergency-related training to members, creating a supply cache program, mapping regional or state-wide cultural heritage organizations, or holding forums to rebuild networks and plan for sustainability.

Submission Deadline: May 1, 2026

  • The program is available to FAIC Alliance for Response member networks, networks in an active rebuilding phase, and networks looking to become AFR members.
  • Applicant networks must submit letters of commitment from current or prospective network leadership and from at least two additional network participants, with a goal of illustrating the capacity to create and maintain a sustainable emergency preparedness and response community.
  • Applicants may be not-for-profit institutions, divisions of local or state government, or individuals. Individuals who receive awards should consider the tax implications of accepting funding. FAIC may be able to provide expense dispersements on behalf of awardees that do not have the ability to manage the award directly.

  • Potential impact of project on the Network and community served
  • Potential impact of the project for the broader AFR network community
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve stated goals within one year
  • For projects involving training, a demonstration of expressed interest in participation from the network’s members
  • For projects involving purchase of supplies, identification of an appropriate location for storing supplies and a feasible plan for distribution of supplies amongst network’s members in the event of an emergency
  • For projects involving revitalization of networks, a demonstration of continuity of operations planning

A panel of reviewers will evaluate applications based on the above criteria and notify awardees within four weeks after the deadline. Projects start June 2026 and must be completed by May 30, 2027.

  • A final report with a description of the project activities and results, at least two digital images, and details of expenditures is due within 90 days of the completion of the project (and no later than August 31, 2027).
  • Networks are required to present project products at an AFR meeting following the period of performance.
  • Products must be made available for sharing through the AFR online community and/or on the FAIC website to help provide resources and facilitate similar projects across our networks nationally.
