Mission

The New Orleans Preservation Coalition and Alliance for Response (NOPC-AfR) is a network of individuals and organizations dedicated to preparing for and responding to emergencies and disasters affecting cultural resources and collections. The NOPC-AfR provides disaster response information, advice, assistance, and opportunities for preservation education in the Greater New Orleans area.

The New Orleans Preservation Coalition (NOPC) is a volunteer-run, 501(c)3 founded in 2018. Our origins trace back to a 2014 IMLS multi-institutional strategic planning grant which recommended our community “bring together cultural heritage and emergency management professionals at the local level, where virtually all initial disaster response occurs.” With this recommendation and momentum, this group of core heritage community members applied for and were awarded a Performing Arts Readiness New Network grant in 2018 to launch and establish a local network of community responders as a part of the national Alliance for Response (AFR) network.

Does your staff and volunteers know what to do before an emergency and/or disaster? Are you  prepared to protect your institution’s unique documents, photos, recordings, artifacts, works of  art, and other valuable assets? The NOPC can help you prepare! We aim to:

  • Provide 24/7 access to a disaster response supply cache and a network of others who  provide mutual aid in a time of crisis.

  • Serve as a conduit for information during emergency response and recovery from the  New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

  • Provide and facilitate information, training, tabletop exercises, and educational  opportunities related to natural, cultural, and historical preparedness, mitigation,  emergency response, recovery and continuity of operations of your organization.

Individuals and institutions connected to cultural heritage preservation, visual and performing arts, archives and libraries, emergency preparedness, disaster response and recovery.
