TSG: A Cross-Disciplinary Approach: Forty years of Conservation Education for Non-Conservators at the Fashion Institute of Technology

Formal conservation training at a post-graduate level has become more standardized over the last forty years. Graduate programs prepare future conservators for a career in conservation practice by focusing on the skills of examination, analysis, stabilization, and treatment. In that time, conservation practice and education have become increasingly science-focused and interdisciplinary, incorporating art history, cultural studies, and principles of preventive conservation and collection care into training, research, and scholarship.
