Sharing this message from Bruce Ford (microfading.com) about issues with the compatibility of CDI/PerkinElmer Spec32 software with the August Windows 11 update:
Dear Control Development (CDI) / PerkinElmer spectrometer users (commonly employed with Whitmore MFTs),
The August Windows 11 updates appear to prevent the CDI/PerkinElmer Spectrometer (Spec32) driver from loading because it is not properly "signed". Previously the problem could be avoided by turning Secure Boot OFF in the BIOS settings and disabling Core Isolation, but this is no longer sufficient.
Part of the problem appears to be that Windows now turns Secure Boot in the BIOS to ON again when restarted even if it has been previously set to OFF, but there appears to be another safeguard which cannot easily be worked around in one of this month's updates and which is not even resolved if the update is rolled back.
Check the following out with your IT section first - the second option worked for me and another user, but it is not persistent and needs to be repeated each time you use the spectrometer:
- (Preferred) If your IT allow, do not permit Windows to install updates from the beginning of this month (August), especially KB5121003. Keep your computer off-line if possible.
- Boot into the Windows Trouble Shootings screen by holding down the SHIFT key while choosing the Restart option in the Windows Power dialog and disabling Driver Signature Signing (option 7).
The sequence is: Troubleshoot, Advanced Options, Restart, 7) Disable Driver Signature Signing.
PerkinElmer (who acquired CDI) are aware of the issue.
Best Regards,
