Hello all -
MFT-IDG, the Micro-Fade Testing international discussion group, is planning an informal meetup for our MFT-IDG community and new friends from noon to 1:00 pm after the Saturday morning session of MFT-related talks, in the same space (Regency Room). Vice President JP Brown (Field Museum) and Programming Officer Cindy Connelly Ryan (Library of Congress) will be there, and will share a recently-completed video animation on MFT developed by our Chair, Vincent Beltran (Getty Conservation Institute). We hope many of you will join us to share thoughts on how MFT-IDG can be helpful for you, kick around any problems you are having with MFT in your work, or just complain about blue wools!
There will be two sessions of talks centered on MFT, "Lighting the Way", co-sponsored by the MFT-IDG, RATS, and PCN groups. The first session, on Friday, May 30, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm in the Nicollet Ballroom (A-B), is focused on museum illumination policies. David Saunders (British Museum) will speak on sustainability-based lighting decision making, while Kate Fugett (National September 11 Memorial & Museum) and Patricia Silence (Colonial Williamsburg) will elaborate on lighting practices and data-driven lighting guidelines, respectively.
On Saturday, May 31, from 10:30 am - noon in the Regency Room, the second session will focus on Microfade Testing theory and practice. Hebe Halstead (Victoria and Albert Museum) will discuss the use of MFT to guide lighting policy, Marie Kern (Stuttgart State Academy of Fine Art and Design) will report on the use of MFT for predicting color change of white paper, and Lindsay Oakley (National Archives and Records Administration) will examine the use of low dose MFT in anoxic conditions.
Safe travels to all, and we look forward to seeing you in Minneapolis.
Best, JP & Cindy
