    Dear Colleagues,

Perhaps this recently published paper is of interest to people also working on large ceramic assemblages? Hoping for a few views, at least. Thanks!

Collecting Data in the Conservation Lab for Network Visualisation
This article presents the results of a cooperation between conservators and archaeologists in the study of a large assemblage of broken ceramic vessels from a communal tomb, which had multiple episodes of mortuary activity as well as later disturbances.

    Summary:

During conservation of the large mass of broken pottery vessels, we found that in many cases the fragments of a single pot could be found dispersed through the tomb; for example, fragments from a single cup might be found in different chambers of the tomb. Kathy and Michael Loy (University of Durham, specialist in digital methods in archaeology) experimented with the data from one tomb, using open source software to create a network visualisation of the joins between the pottery sherds found in the tomb, contributing to the understanding of the formation of the deposits.
