Dear AIC IWG members,
Attached to this message is a PDF documenting our Lightroom based scene referred color calibrated image capture workflow. This was written with the intention of being accessible to the broadest audience possible, so some of it may seem elementary knowledge to Imaging professionals but is an important foundation for those who are not. The workflow may not be much different from what some are already doing but it has proven effective and reliable across multiple imaging stations with various equipment over the course of years so we wanted to share it.
The work to develop, test and establish best practice for cultural heritage imaging is an ongoing challenge. Met Imaging has been actively encouraging broad adoption by the software and camera manufacturers of ISO 19264 standards, specifically the elements related to accurate color and lightness reproduction. We applaud companies that already support improving access to the techniques we rely upon as a truly global community, and encourage wider adoption.
This documentation is based upon extensive testing using Lightroom Classic but it's clear that work remains to simplify and streamline the calibration process. We are planning to host in-person workshops at the Met's Imaging studio to help improve access and awareness, but it's important to continue to advocate for integrated support in the tools that we use.
If you feel these features are important please let us know and we will make sure to pass your feedback on to the camera and software manufacturers during ongoing standards meetings.
For the first workshop, we can offer to host a group on Thursday June 8 from 10:00am - 1:00pm. The plan will be to walk through the process and then have time to discuss.
Please RSVP to me (chris.heins@metmuseum.org) if you plan to attend. We'll offer other dates in the future if the interest is there.
Thank you,
Chris and the rest of the Met Imaging Team
