The C2C Care Community is fortunate to be monitored by a group of volunteer conservation professionals who answer questions directly or seek the assistance of conservators and collections care professionals who provide expert assistance. Our monitor this week is @Sharon Fickeissen, followed by @Saira Haqqi, and then resumed by Sharon through the first week in June!

"As the Senior Conservation Technician at Hagley Museum and Library, Sharon provides care for collections within the Published Collections and Archives departments. In addition to treating collections materials, she assists with preventive conservation activities: the inspection of incoming collections for signs of pest infestation and mold growth, cleaning, and monitoring storage spaces, providing emergency response and recovery training, and with the preparation and mounting of small case and museum exhibits. Sharon graduated from RIT with a degree in Fine Art Photography (back when you actually developed film) and has been bench trained in book and paper conservation and holds an MA in Preventive Conservation from Northumbria University."

Saira: "I'm a conservator at the National Archives and Records Administration in College Park, MD. Prior to this, I was the book and paper conservator at the Minnesota Historical Society. I received my B.A. in Liberal Arts from Carleton College, MN, and Master's degrees in Art History and Art Conservation from New York University. I'm excited to work with people to take care of cultural heritage, and I love seeing the interesting questions they have. It's a chance to educate but also to be educated about different aspects of preservation!"

Our thanks to Sharon and Saira and to all our C2C Care Monitors. Interested in volunteering? Please email c2cc@culturalheritage.org.
