Biography

Anne Downey is a Fellow of the American Institute for Conservation. She's the former Head of Conservation for the American Philosophical Society, and is currently the Bingham Project Conservator for the Hagley Museum & Library. She received her M.A. and Certificate of Advanced Studies in Art Conservation from the State University of New York, College at Buffalo. Anne specializes in the conservation of works on paper including: manuscripts and all documents on paper and parchment, prints, watercolors and other paintings on paper, and drawings. Prior positions include Senior Paper Conservator at the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts in Philadelphia, Caretaker for Wyck Historic House and Garden, and Advanced Intern at the Library of Congress. Her life-long love of all things paper has helped shaped her convictions about the importance of our material cultural heritage.
