Barbara Lemmen has been affiliated assistant faculty in Art Conservation at the University of Delaware since 2002, working with majors and minors in photograph conservation in the WUDPAC program and lecturing in the undergraduate and WUDPAC programs. She earned her MS from this same program in 1991, and her BA in Art History and Chemistry from Williams College. Barbara was Photograph Conservator and then Senior Photograph Conservator at the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts from 2001 to 2026. Prior to this, she maintained a private conservation practice in New Hampshire, was the Consulting Photograph Conservator at the Library of Congress, a Fellow with José Orraca, and an intern at the Image Permanence Institute and National Archives of Canada.
Barbara has worked with allied heritage professionals, conservators, and students, nationally and internationally. Some areas of special interest to her include conservation education, health and safety for conservators, and disaster recovery. Most recently, she contributed to Conservation of Photographs: Significance, Use and Care. A Fellow of AIC, Barbara has held many leadership positions for PMG: Chair, Program Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, and Chair of the Education and Training Committee, and is currently a member of the FAIC committee Collaborative Workshops in Photograph Conservation.
