Biography

Erin Stephenson is a Paintings Conservator based in Washington, D.C. with a specialty focus in modern and contemporary art. She earned her MA and Certificate of Advanced Study in Art Conservation from SUNY Buffalo State College and is a Professional Member of the American Institute for Conservation. Her origin story began in the pacific northwest where she worked at various arts organizations and successful private practices before completing the graduate program in Art Conservation at SUNY Buffalo State College. Erin spent her early graduate and post-graduate years at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Balboa Art Conservation Center in San Diego, and the Menil Collection in Houston before her final fellowship at the National Gallery of Art in DC. Fate led her to remain in DC and open a private practice where she works with individual and institutional clients in the greater DMV area and beyond--she has a paintbrush and a passport! Erin served the Paintings Specialty Group in the restructuring of the PSG Wiki initiative and as Wiki Editor, as Secretary/Treasurer, and as the Assistaint and Program Chair. She also served the broader AIC community as the Chair of the Communications Committee and as Communications Officer of the Contemporary Art Network. When she isn't going somewhere for work or volunteering her time in a professional capacity you'll probably be able to find her at a swing dance event or serving on the board and committee of local swing dance organizations. Alternatively, she may be recharging from all that extroverted activity at home reorganizing her organized closet or baking yet another batch of biscotti.
