Howard Wellman is the proprietor of Wellman Conservation LLC, specializing in the preservation of archaeological artifacts, public monuments, and historic cemeteries. Particularly specialties include iron and organic materials from waterlogged sites. He has an MA in Archaeology from Boston University and a BSc in Conservation of Archaeological Materials from the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. He has worked at archaeological sites in England, Cyprus, Turkey and Egypt, and with museum collections in London, Cyprus, Turkey, Boston, and Maryland. Prior to forming Wellman Conservation LLC he was Director of Conservation for the Institute Of Nautical Archaeology-Egypt and Lead Conservator for the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory. He is a Professional Member of the American Institute for Conservation, is a former officer of the Washington Conservation Guild, co-chair of AICs Archaeological Discussion Group and is a founder of a Mid-Atlantic group of archaeological conservators who meet for professional development workshops. His clients include federal, state, and local agencies in the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as church parishes and private collectors.
