Biography

Jonathan Farbowitz is a Conservator of Time-Based Media at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and an Adjunct Professor in New York University's Moving Image Archiving and Preservation program. He was previously a Fellow in the Conservation of Computer-based Art at the Guggenheim, where he assisted the conservation department in addressing the preservation needs of computer-based works in its collection and supporting the development of best practices for collecting these kinds of artworks. He most recently participated in the restoration of Shu Lea Cheang’s web artwork Brandon (1998–1999). He holds an MA in Moving Archiving and Preservation from New York University as well as a BA from Vassar College and has previous experience in software development and testing.
