Dr. Sarah Scaturro is the Eric and Jane Nord Chief Conservator at the Cleveland Museum of Art, where she leads the museum's conservation and technical research programs. Prior to joining the CMA, she served as Head Conservator of The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from 2012 to 2020, following her role as Textile Conservator and Assistant Curator of Fashion at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum from 2006 to 2012.
A recognized scholar in the field, Dr. Scaturro has published extensively on the history, theory, and practice of textile and fashion conservation, with particular expertise in the preservation of synthetic materials in fashion and textile collections. She holds an M.A. in Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory, and Museum Practice from the Fashion Institute of Technology, as well as an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Design History and Material Culture from Bard Graduate Center. Her doctoral research examined the professionalization of fashion and textile conservation.
