Valeria Orlandini is an independent conservator of works of art, unbound archival materials and photographs with a M.S./ Certificate in Conservation from the Winterthur Museum/ University of Delaware Art Conservation Program. She is currently working in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She participated as a Senior Paper Conservator in the Thomas Jefferson Bible Project at the Smithsonian Institution - National Museum of American History in 2010-2011. She was employed as a paper conservator at the Library of Congress, in Washington D.C. in 2006-2009 and McKay Lodge Fine Arts Conservation Laboratory, Inc. in Ohio in 2002-2006. Previously, she has worked at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts, Winterthur Museum, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and abroad at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, United Kingdom, National Gallery of Canada and National Archives of Canada in Ottawa, Canada, and the University of Sao Paulo, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Participated in research projects associated with the conservation of historical documents and fine arts on paper and parchment containing iron gall ink and other inks and contributed to conferences, seminars, training workshops and publications. She coordinates a forum called Thematic Network MEEP that creates awareness of ink corrosion, emergency preparedness and collection preservation management protocols.
