Biography

Verónica Mercado Oliveras is a Book and Paper Conservator for Digitization at The Huntington where she conducts the conservation treatment and assesses the handling needs of materials selected for digitization. She earned her Master of Science in Art Conservation from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation, specializing in library and archival materials conservation and minoring in paper conservation (2023). Verónica held positions at museums and libraries in Puerto Rico and the United States, including the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, the Library of Congress, the American Philosophical Society, and the National Library of Puerto Rico. Before joining The Huntington in 2023, she was the Library of Congress’ 2023 Harper Inglis Post-Graduate Book Conservation Fellow. Verónica’s scholarship gravitates towards promoting the visibility of Latin American and Iberian collections through conservation efforts and material/historical research.
