Hi Vernon-If we were to attempt to salvage such images we would photograph them first- with and without cross polarized light on a copy stand. The polarizers would help to eliminate the reflection from the silver mirroring that is quite common on those proofs. Then we could try cleaning and or fixing ...

HI Saira-- They are almost certainly nitrate negatives, and from before 1950. 1990s negatives do not exhibit any deterioration that resembles that. They appear to have been placed in polyester sleeves, which is the preservation equivalent of lighting them on fire. They deteriorate rapidly when placed ...
