Biography

Kenza Dufourmantelle is the Senior Director of Research, Conservation and Scientific Services at the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) and leads a highly skilled professional team of 50+ scientists, engineers and conservators in areas of research, service delivery, training and capacity building, addressing the concerns of thousands of heritage organizations and communities across Canada. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Kenza holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry (minor in art history) from McGill University, studied Art History and Museology at the Ecole du Louvre and obtained her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Perugia. She has worked and studied in France, Italy and the United States and carried out research at major institutions such the Louvre in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles. Kenza’s current focus in Canada is to value heritage for all diverse communities, to better serve equity-deserving and small-to-medium sized underfunded organisations and to contribute to overarching national priorities. Kenza plays a leading role in the international conservation arena. She oversees partnerships and collaborations with international experts and organisations. In 2023, Kenza was elected Deputy Chairperson of the ICCROM council (2-year mandate) and continues to play an active role as Council member (4-year mandate).
