Biography

Ruth Rufino García is conservator en “Museos de Tenerife”, Cabildo de Tenerife, España, where she works in the Department of Conservation. This department provide services for five museums in the island: MUNA (Museum of Nature and Archaeology, where there are two museums: Museum of Archeology and Museums of natural Science), MHA (former for two museum: Museums of History and Museum of Anthropology ) and the CEDOCAM (Documentation Center Canary and American) and for three storages. She received her B.A. in paintings conservation from the University of Granada, Granada, Spain, and her M.A. in the Conservation of Building Heritage from the CICOP, International Center for the Conservation of Heritage, La Laguna, Tenerife. Her academic interests and specializations include the conservation and preservation of archaeological, Fine Arts, mumies, ethnographic and natural history materials, museum studies, and restoration of all kind of museum collection: wooden artifact, photography, book and paper, object, etc. Her work in the museum includes research into the conservation of the guanches mummies, ancient inhabitants of Tenerife island. She worked as a associate professor from 2006 to 2009 in the University of La Laguna, teaching polychrome wood conservation, and she was part of the Mind Project team in 2014, in the conservation of a tomb in Luxor, Egypt. Today she provides her services for the government in the “Museos de Tenerife”, working on the implementation of preventive conservation strategies in the exhibition halls, storages and handling and transport of museum objects as well as applying restoration treatments.
