Biography

An art conservator and program officer, my work involves interdisciplinary collaboration with preservation professionals to advance the preservation and safeguarding of cultural heritage. I strive to incorporate a collaborative conservation approach and support conservation access and education opportunities for communities in project designs. As National Preservation Program Officer at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), I support the preservation initiatives of the NARA Presidential Libraries and Museums with conservation guidance on treatment, custom housing, records emergencies, integrated pest management, exhibitions renovations, and periodic site assessments. Before joining NARA in early 2024, I held positions as a museum conservator (McCarter Chief Conservator, Field Museum; Conservator, National Museum of African Art) and a conservator in private practice (Director, Caryatid Conservation Services), supporting museums. Since 2012 I have consulted with the Smithsonian’s Cultural Rescue Initiative (SCRI), supporting heritage professionals in Haiti, Egypt, and Ukraine. I am a past chair of the Smithsonian Forum on Material Culture and AIC’s Education and Training Committee. My research areas are post-disaster cultural recovery; the identification and regulation of elephant ivory; and intersections of conservation practice for ethnographic and contemporary art.
