Candis Griggs (previously Hakim) is an Objects Conservator with over two decades of experience working on ethnographic, archaeological, and decorative objects. Drawn into conservation through archaeology, Ms. Griggs worked on sites in Greece, Pakistan, and Honduras before settling down in the Bay Area. There she opened her private practice and worked with several local institutions including the Fine Arts Museums, the Asian Art Museum, and the San Francisco Airport Museum. From 2012-2018, Ms. Griggs was in the Middle East on contract with the National Museum of Qatar, where she treated a wide variety of objects - from Bedouin goatskins to priceless tiaras - among conservators from all over the world. Candis is now back in Northern California, where she works with several important private collections and is current President of the Bay Area Art Conservation Guild. When not working, she can be found haranguing her teen daughters into playing gin rummy, collecting eggs from her chickens, playing with her little dogs, or cooking with her husband.
