Biography

Sarah's academic journey began at The University of Manchester, where she earned a First Class BA (Hons) in Archaeology in 2007. Her undergraduate studies & a career as an archaeologist equipped her with the skills to analyse and interpret diverse sources of information, laying a solid foundation for her future career in conservation. Motivated by a desire to deepen her expertise, Sarah pursued an MSc in Conservation Practice at Cardiff University, where she graduated with distinction in 2013. This rigorous program equipped her with a deep understanding of conservation theory and practical skills, fostering her ability to conduct independent research and address complex conservation challenges. Since February 2015, Sarah has served as a Conservator (Object and Preventive) at the Whitworth, University of Manchester. In this role, she has taken on lead responsibilities for exhibition installations, environmental monitoring, and the conservation of sculptural works. Sarah is recognized for her ability to independently solve complex problems related to the display, storage, and handling of objects, applying a high degree of expertise and innovation. Her role also includes mentoring and assessing graduate and post-graduate conservation interns, reflecting her commitment to the development of future professionals in the field. In addition to her work at the Whitworth, Sarah has expanded her influence within the conservation community. Since 2023, she has served as the Communications Officer for the ICON Sustainability Network, where she keeps members informed of key events and resources related to sustainable conservation practices. She has also shared her expertise as a guest lecturer at The University of Manchester, where she teaches MA students in Art Gallery and Museum Studies about conservation and collection care.
