Biography

Jo Anne Martinez-Kilgore is the conservator at the State of Arizona Library, Archives, and Public Records (ASLAPR). She is a 1990 graduate of the Conservation and Preservation Education Programs of Columbia University. She worked for almost a decade as a collections conservator, first at the New York Public Library, then at the Library of Congress. She has much experience in dealing with the broad issues and varied content of large collections. For over 20 years she has maintained a private practice, taking on treatment projects varying from cleaning and stabilizing 400 ledgers in the General Store in front of which Billy the Kid shot the Deputy, to performing conservation treatment on Indian bindings from a Sikh collection. She has gained expertise in the treatment of works of art on paper, valuable documents, and maps. She has had the opportunity to work with diverse collections of books and documents in libraries, historical societies, museums, and county clerks offices. From 2003-2007, Martinez-Kilgore served as the Chair of the New Mexico Preservation Alliance. In 2009 - 2011 she served as assistant program chair and program chair of the Book and Paper Group of the AIC. Since 2018 she has been Conservator at the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records.
