Join the National Heritage Responders

How can I become a National Heritage Responder?

In order to join NHR, interested persons must:

  • Complete one of FAIC's trainings (regional or national), or the Smithsonian Cultural Rescue Initiative (SCRI) Heritage Emergency and Response Training (HEART).
  • Pass an exam which covers material taught during training.
In addition to the core requirements, we consider geographic location and specialty when onboarding new responders. It is important to us to have responders located across the country, with a diverse set of skills.

Already completed an FAIC or SCRI training? Email emergencies@culturalheritage.org for access to the exam. We onboard on an as-needed basis and cannot guarantee immediate admittance into NHR.

Upcoming Opportunities:

  • 2022: FAIC will host an NHR training over the course of several months in 2022. Participants will be expected to complete several online curriculum modules from February - April 2022, culminating in an in-person training May 13 and 14, 2022 in Los Angeles, California.
    • The 2022 NHR training immediately precedes AIC's 50th Annual Meeting, May 15-17, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. For more information about the Annual Meeting, see here
